Dean’s Message
I am proud to present the 2024 Faculty Impact Report for the Faculty of Medicine at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. This report highlights the significant strides we have made over the past year in nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals, advancing groundbreaking medical research and innovation, and positively impacting patients worldwide.
2024 is not just another year for me; it marks my inaugural year as the 9th Dean of CU Medicine. It is a profound honour to follow the footsteps of esteemed predecessors whose vision and dedication established this Faculty as a leader in medical education. The results speak for themselves: we have ascended into the top 25 globally and ranked in the top three in Asia. Additionally, our Nursing school has set the bar high, earning the title of the best in Asia and 5th globally, continually breaking records year after year.
Reflecting on the past year, I am truly inspired by the remarkable achievements of our students, staff and faculty. They have shone brightly on the local, national, and international research stages, solidifying our Faculty’s reputation. I am particularly proud to see a growing number of female clinician scientists joining our senior management team, demonstrating the power of diverse voices in medical innovation and reinforcing our commitment to advancing global health.
In our rapidly evolving world, it is imperative that we remain anchored to our core values while seizing the immense opportunities presented by Hong Kong’s transformation into a global innovation and technology hub. We have embraced artificial intelligence in medical education, fostering talents poised for clinical translation and upholding our motto: “Transforming our Passion into Perfection.” Furthermore, we are actively equipping our students with essential entrepreneurship skills for practical application and product development. Our commitment to Medical Humanities is stronger than ever, vital for cultivating empathy and ethical standards among future doctors as they navigate the healthcare landscape of the future.
The journey ahead is demanding, but our ambitious plans are achievable through the unwavering support of our alumni family, generous grants and philanthropic contributions, government funding, and collaborative partnerships with health organisations locally and globally. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all who stand behind our mission—your support is integral to our success.
Let us continue this incredible journey together, driving global medical progress forward. I am excited to see more individuals join us in this vital effort.
