THANK YOU NOTES
Lily LAI (Medicine Year 6)
Awardee of Gerald Choa Memorial Fund
Overseas Exchange Scholarship 2018–19
I am writing to express my sincere gratitude to Gerald Choa Memorial
Fund for awarding me the Gerald Choa Memorial Fund Overseas
Exchange Scholarship. I am truly grateful to be selected as one of the
recipients.
I have just graduated from medical school and I will become an intern
in July. Last summer, I went to the Asan Medical Center in Korea for
my elective study. (2nd right) Lily LAI
I did a one-month clinical attachment with the Department of Gastroenterology and the Kidney & Pancreas Transplantation
Department. I had the opportunity to observe many advanced interventions, such as endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD),
endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and simultaneous pancreas and living kidney transplantations. I also attended the
Seoul International Symposium on Helicobacter and Upper Gastrointestinal Disease where I met a number of distinguished
professors and attended many informative talks. It was such a learning experience for me as I digested the most updated
information as well as current situations of HP infections and various GI diseases in different countries. Thanks to the
scholarship, I was able to get the chance to learn so many things during my elective study, which also inadvertently helped
me during my final-year study and my future career development.
I cannot thank you all enough for your generosity and support. I pledge that I will study hard and become a good doctor and
do my best to help others and eventually give back to the community.

Awardee of Gerald Choa Memorial Fund
Overseas Research Scholarship 2018–19
I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude
for being chosen as one of the recipients of the Gerald Choa
Memorial Fund Overseas Research Scholarship 2018–19. I must say
I am deeply honoured.
During the last summer holiday, I went to the University of Oxford’s
Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM) for a 9-week
research attachment programme to study congenital myasthenic
syndrome in Professor David BEESON’s laboratory. The award was a
great help as it covered my accommodation and living expenses.
Being enthusiastic about scientific research and with the aim of helping society with my knowledge and skills in the future,
I am going to pursue an intercalated Master of Science in Research Medicine at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in the
next academic year. Needless to say, the scholarship will enable me to focus more on my studies as I will not have to worry
about my educational and living expenses.
Again, thank you very much for your generosity. I will endeavour, not only to finish my studies, but also to contribute to the
community and help the underprivileged in the future.
