Career Talks and Workshops

During the reporting period, the MABP organised several
career talks and workshops. The talks by specialist doctors
from both the private and public sectors were geared to
help students make informed decisions about their future
specialty. There was a career talk on Internal Medicine on
10 October 2018 with speakers including Dr. Heyson CHAN
(MBChB 2007), Specialist in Gastroenterology &
Hepatology, PWH, Dr. Kwun Cheung HAU (MBChB 1992),
a private practice specialist in dermatology and Dr. Jimmy LAI
(MBChB 2015) a Resident at PWH. Also giving talks were
cardiologist Dr. Godwin LEUNG (MBChB 1993),
paediatrician Dr. Paul SHEA (MBChB 1989), Professor Lai Shan TAM (MBChB 1992), Department of Medicine &
Therapeutics, CUHK and Dr. Bonnie WONG (MBChB 2002), Senior Medical Officer, Special Preventive Programme,
Department of Health. The Q & A session was moderated by the late Dr. Wing Tai SIU (MBChB 1989). Around 100 people
attended this event.

On 30 November 2018, a career talk on surgery, entitled “The
Making of a Surgeon” was held at Shaw Auditorium, PWH.
More than 10 heavyweight surgeons such as
Dr. Emily CHAN (MBChB 2001), Associate Consultant in
Neurosurgery, PWH; Dr. Justin CHAN (MBChB 2009),
Associate Consultant in Princess Margaret Hospital;
Consultant from Tuen Mun Hospital, Dr. Chin Cheung
CHEUNG (MBChB 1989) and Dr. Chak Lam CHO
(MBChB 2004), Urologist Consultant, Union Hospital, shared
their views on the topic. Other speakers included Assistant
Professor of Surgery at PWH, Professor Charing CHONG
(MBChB 2003); Dr. Ho Wai IP (MBChB 2016);
Dr. Kam Hung KWOK (MBChB 1989), Chief of Service,
Surgery, Queen Elizabeth Hospital; Dr. Tak Wing LAI (MBChB 1989), COS, PMH; Professor Enders NG (MBChB 1989),
Cluster COS, NTEC, Professor of Surgery, CUHK; Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery, PWH, Dr. Innes WAN (MBChB
1994) and Dr. Zenon YEUNG (MBChB 2009), Associate Consultant of United Christian Hospital and Tseung Kwan O
Hospital. The moderator was the late Dr. Wing Tai SIU (MBChB 1989). More than 150 people attended this talk.

For pre-clinical year students, a talk held on 22 October 2018
at the Lee Shau Kee Building on CUHK campus, centred
around tips and advice on spot tests and viva voce.
Some 40 people turned up for this talk. Speakers included
the late Dr. Wing Tai SIU (MBChB 1989) and two senior
medical students Mr. Paul LEE (Medicine Year 6) and
Mr. Jason WONG (Medicine Year 6).
